Hard Court Construction
Hard courts are more commonly referred to as acrylic courts or generically as plexipave and are used extensively in international tournaments including 2 Grand Slam Championships, Australian Open and US Open.
When looking at hard surface tennis court construction or acrylic tennis court construction it is critical to rely on time proven and engineering backed base works, to ensure your investment is protected for many years.
Whilst there are industry standards for both asphalt tennis court construction and concrete tennis court construction, we at A.S.Lodge believe it is better is exceed these standards to ensure our client’s investment is protected. A.S Lodge was a foundation member of the Tennis Court Builders Association, and during these formative years was instrumental in writing the guidelines for construction of all courts.
The feather in the A.S.Lodge cap when asked to construct the courts at Melbourne Park for the Australian Open. All A.S.Lodge crews performed to their expected best to provide these world class courts that are often referred to as the best in the world.
A S Lodge recently reconstructed 8 Plexipave courts for Monash University, Melbourne. Due to the extremely poor subgrade conditions it was necessary to excavate and construct a 900mm pavement. Each layer of the subgrade and subbase was meticulously laid, levelled and compacted to achieve the desired finish for our client.
Often, we are asked “What is the hard tennis court construction cost?” or more specifically “What is the acrylic tennis court construction cost?” The answer is generally a lot less by doing it correctly in the first place then by adopting a cheap and nasty non engineered non proven method, which will ultimately require replacement. A.S.Lodge is able to assess your property and provide written advice on the best method of construction to provide the longest lasting product.
A S Lodge have constructed in excess of 4,200 courts over the past 42 plus years. These courts have been installed for municipal councils, government authorities, prestigious private schools, local and regional clubs and tennis centres and some of the most fastidious and discerning private clients throughout Australia. A.S.Lodge have been recognised and awarded many times for the wonderful work we have done.
It is disappointing to get called back to courts only built a few years ago to a ridiculous budget. Whilst the clients are often embarrassed to admit that they went with a budget driven contractor, who will not return calls, and are now stuck with a damaged court. It is often far more expensive to rectify the poor works methods and workmanship to give the client the desired finish.
A S Lodge can advice and service your every need when it comes to international standard acrylic tennis courts. We have knowledge in base construction as well as installation of high level LED lighting and multisport additions.

I was very impressed with the speed with which you dealt with the minor hiccups throughout the project.
I just played tennis on the courts at Yarra Glen Tennis Club, and want to thank you for doing such a wonderful job.
Everyone at AS Lodge were always helpful and willing to assist with any concerns we may have had.
Your integrity and control of yesterday's situation was most reassuring that I had made the correct decision in choosing your company.
A S Lodge carried out a full resurfacing of our 28 year old tennis court with a new concrete base and synthetic grass. From the initial discussions with Richard and innovative approach to the final sign off with Sandy the complete experience was one of minimal inconvenience and complete satisfaction.
The concrete team and then the grass laying team were efficient and extremely fast in their execution of their tasks.
The finished result is what looks like a brand new court.
We are extremely satisfied in our choice of A S Lodge, and would recommend them to anyone in the future.
Once again thanks for a great project.
